As you know, I love the Spurs. With that said, I am more than happy to hear Gregg Popovich, Head Coach of the San Antonio
Spurs, has
officially been named coach of the Western Conference All-Star
team. This will
be Pop’s third time coaching the team in his 17-year tenure with
the Spurs.
Popovich earned the coaching opportunity after the Spurs pummeled
Charlotte on
Wednesday, securing the best record in the West.
Scott Brooks from the Thunder coached the
All-Star team last
year, and was therefore ineligible to coach again this year.
Although All-Star status is not usually a goal
of Popovich
(or any of the Spurs for that matter), he admits that he enjoys
the opportunity
and is excited for this year’s All-Star game.
“[It is] a heck of an opportunity to enjoy amazing talent, that’s not just a B.S. or trite statement. It’s true. When you’re around those guys you look around the room and you can’t believe you’re in the same room with them. It’s a huge honor just to be a part of it.”
